Glossary

Plain-language definitions for the labels used around the guide.

Mainline

A core entry in a series — the numbered, story-and-mechanics games people mean when they name the franchise.

Compare: Spin-off

Spin-off

A game set in a franchise's world but built around a different genre or idea (racing, party games, puzzles) rather than the core experience.

Compare: Mainline

Remaster

The same game with improved graphics, resolution, or performance — not rebuilt, just polished.

Compare: Remake

Remake

A game rebuilt from scratch on new technology. Same story and characters, but new assets and often reworked controls.

Compare: Remaster

Compilation

A bundle that packages several older games together in one release. It's a collection, not a new entry.
